Intro

The fourth annual Woodwise event will be held on April 26, 2008. The geocaching event will held within the general area of the E2C event, which is a demanding orienteering event, held by the Halifax Regional Search & Rescue. Click on the banner above for more details.

The coordinates for the geocaching event will be updated within a few days of the actual event. Check the gc.com listing page for the latest coords.

4x4 vehicles are highly recommended at event day, since the road will probably be muddy. ATV's & OHV's are not allowed on Bowater Mersey Property.

The following are the potential geocaches that you will be able to access during the event. Normally the gates to this area are closed, but during the E2C event, they will be open. Thus saving you a lot of time. Most of these are a few 100 metres from the road.

Activities

At the event site, there will be a few activities. The main purpose will be to educate the geocaching community on some basic safety concepts as many geocachers in this area also volunteer their time to the Halifax Search & Rescue organization.

You will also have the opportunity to take a tour of the command bus which is the control center of every search & rescue operation that occurs in the HRM.

As of April 16: Road conditions are very good in most places but some areas with snow cover. That snow cover would prove a hindrance to 2wd vehicles. I expect that remaining snow cover to be gone by next weekend. Geocachers should be able to drive right up to the 'Geocache Event' - the E2C Start/Finish. If it rains just prior to the event there will be some slippery spots on the road in a few places, but not any deep mud. In most places we are barely leaving a track, we are not leaving any ruts at all. The roads are sandy/gravel base and drain well. They are not clay. Very low vehicles such as Corvettes or 'street tuners' will not make it without touching bottom but any respectable Geocacher and their 'Corolla' will not have a problem. ;-)
