We'll be looking at the basic screens between the Garmin Legend and Legend C. The main difference is that the Legend C is the color screen model.

First thing when comparing the Garmin Legend & Legend C, is screen size. The Legend has 160 x 288 pixels compared to 176 x 220 pixels found on the Legend C.

Ironically, this means that the older Legend has a larger display, allbeit rectangle while the more recent Legend C has a more square display.

Of course, the other feature is the color screen.

Lets compare the basic screens:

The most obvious observation is that the Legend C screen has less clutter and the location & elevation detail does not appear until there is a satellite signal.

 Map Screen

(note: We're using Metroguide Canada v4 on both units.)

Comparing both units at the same map scale shows us very different things. Again, by default, additional information found on the Legend screen is hidden on the Legend C.  While it is possible to have them appear - this would totally eat up all of your screen real estate.

The color screen allows us to distinguish between types of roads, park, etc...

One nice feature with the Legend C is the ability to display your map using different color scheme. By default, this will invert the color scheme (toggle between light & dark colors) at dusk. This allows you to see the screen more clearly while driving at night or during the day.

Navigation Screen

The navigation screen offers much of the same between the two units. The Legend C allows the user to display up to 4 data fields, compared to the 2 found in the Legend.

 Trip Screen

Both screens have remained esssentially the same.

The main menu screen is probably the one  screen that has changed the most. The Legend C offers more features & many are named differently. User upgrading to the Legend C will find it confusing at first. Especially since the use of the rocker (joystick) is no longer used for accessing sub menu features.

Calendar

A nice upgrade is the addition of more functions related to geocaching with the Legend C. One area where it is more obvious is with the Calendar. The Legend C will log your geocaches or waypoints into the calendar, so that you can review at the end of the day or week.

Finally, the way to find a waypoint has changed a lot. The Legend C has major cateories readily available while the Legend forces you to drill down until you find the category you want to find.
